Jack Nicholson’s daughter shares rare photo of acting legend on his 89th birthday, see him now

Jack Nicholson’s daughter, Lorraine Nicholson, gave fans a rare look at the famously private actor while celebrating his 89th birthday on Thursday. The 36-year-old shared a heartfelt Instagram post featuring Nicholson enjoying a family birthday gathering alongside longtime friend Joni Mitchell. In the photo, the legendary actor appeared cheerful, smiling and clapping during the celebration, while Lorraine simply captioned the post, “89!!”

She also shared a vintage throwback of Nicholson from the 1970s, showing the actor in a red Coca-Cola shirt smoking a cigar.

Lorraine, who is also an actress, is one of Nicholson’s children with former partner Rebecca Broussard, along with son Ray Nicholson. The Oscar-winning actor has several other children from different relationships, including Jennifer Nicholson, Caleb James Goddard, and Honey Hollman. He has also been estranged from his alleged youngest daughter, Tessa Gourin.

As one of the few family members to occasionally share glimpses of Nicholson’s private life, Lorraine has become a rare source of updates on the actor, who has largely stayed out of public view since stepping away from Hollywood more than a decade ago. His last screen role was in the 2010 romantic comedy How Do You Know.

Back in December 2025, Lorraine posted another rare family photo with Nicholson and Ray, while sources close to the actor said he was happy living outside the spotlight and enjoying time with family.

Though public appearances have been scarce, Nicholson has occasionally been spotted in recent years, including attending the SNL 50 celebration and making a few rare outings in Beverly Hills and at Lakers games.

Close friend Danny DeVito also reassured fans last year that Nicholson was doing well. Speaking during the 50th anniversary of One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest, DeVito described his longtime friend as “great” and reflected warmly on their decades-long friendship, praising Nicholson’s genuine and grounded nature.

Years earlier, Bill O’Reilly also dismissed rumors surrounding Nicholson’s mental decline, saying after visiting him that the actor remained sharp and intellectually engaged.

The article also revisited Nicholson’s complicated family relationships, including his estrangement from Tessa Gourin, who publicly wrote in 2025 about growing up without her father and the challenges of navigating Hollywood without the advantages often associated with celebrity children.

It also touched on Nicholson’s unusual upbringing. Raised believing his grandparents were his parents and his biological mother was his sister, he only learned the truth in adulthood after a magazine investigation revealed his family secret in 1974.

Despite a turbulent start, Nicholson built one of Hollywood’s most celebrated careers, starring in more than 70 films over five decades. His iconic performances in The Shining, One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest, A Few Good Men, Five Easy Pieces, and As Good as It Gets cemented his legacy as one of cinema’s greatest actors.
